So, you got yourself a shiny new computer, but you need to get PowerChurch Plus and its data off the old and onto the new. Luckily, doing so isn’t all that difficult. First, you’ll need a flash drive (or some other form of removable media) in order to transfer the data. Think of it like a moving truck. Go ahead and attach that flash drive to the old computer.
Now, if you’ve already installed PowerChurch on the new computer (via a download link, CD, etc.), then open up PowerChurch on the old computer. Choose ‘Utilities’ from the top menu items. In the drop-down menu, click on ‘Backup & Restore Files.’ In the window that opens up, make sure that ‘Backup Files’ is selected, then click ‘Next.’ Leave ‘All data files & pictures’ selected and click ‘Next.’ On the next window, click on ‘Choose folder’ and select your flash drive from that list. Click ‘Finish.’ PowerChurch will go through the process of creating a backup of your data. You will then receive a message that says, ‘Backup complete.’ Click ‘Done.’
Take your flash drive and plug it into the new computer. Open up PowerChurch. Again, choose ‘Utilities’ from the top. Then ‘Backup & Restore Files.’ This time, choose ‘Restore Files.’ You’ll get a warning about overwriting data, and that’s okay. Click ‘Next.’ Click ‘Choose Folder’ and select your flash drive. If you have multiple PowerChurch backups on this flash drive, you’ll get a list of them. Choose the one you just made and click ‘Next.’ Otherwise, it will go straight to the next screen that says, ‘CONFIRM: Restore this backup?’. Leave ‘Restore all files from backup’ checked and click ‘Finish.’ PowerChurch will now restore your data. You’ll get a message that says, ‘Restore complete.’ Click ‘Done.’ PowerChurch will now reindex and close. When you open PowerChurch up again, all of your data will now be in the program.
What if you don’t have PowerChurch Plus installed on the new computer? In this case, you can move the entire program to the new computer. PowerChurch installs itself on the C:\ drive by default. You can easily find the C:\ drive by clicking on the start icon on your taskbar and typing ‘C:\’ (Yes, you need the colon and the backslash). Either a link to your hard drive will appear in the search results (click on that), or, in newer versions of Windows, simply hitting ‘enter’ on your keyboard will open up the C:\ drive in file explorer.
See the folder labeled ‘PowerChurch.’ You can take that folder and drag and drop it onto your flash drive. Or, you can right-click on the PowerChurch folder, choose ‘Copy,’ then open up your flash drive, right-click, and choose ‘Paste’. Whichever you find easiest. Now, take that flash drive and plug it into the new computer. Your flash drive should automatically open up. Go ahead and open up the C:\ drive (the same way as before). This time, you’re going to move the data in the opposite direction. Find the PowerChurch folder on your flash drive, then drag and drop it onto the C:\ drive. (Or copy and paste if you prefer).
PowerChurch Plus is now installed on your new computer. Except … that it isn’t. There’s still one more important step. In the C:\ drive on the new computer, double-click the PowerChurch folder to open it up. You’ll see a folder labeled ‘PCPLUSxx’ The xx will be the version number of your version of PowerChurch. For example, if you have version 12, the folder will be named ‘PCPLUS12’, and so forth. If you have older versions of PowerChurch, you’ll see their folders as well. Of course, you’ll want the newest version of PowerChurch that you have. Double-click on that folder to open it up. You’ll see a folder labeled ‘Install.’ Double-click on that folder. Now, look for a program called ‘Netsetupxx.exe.’ Again, the xx stands for the version number. Double-click on that to run it. This will install the necessary components on your computer that allow PowerChurch to run.
If you’re using version 10 or earlier, please note: Netsetupxx.exe will not be in the ‘Install' folder. You’ll find it in the folder ‘PCPLUSxx’ beneath the list of other folders.
When it is finished installing, you’re all set! Just double-click on the PowerChurch icon on your desktop like usual, and all of your data should be there.
